In the wake of escalating tensions between the US and Iran, Pakistan has reached out to Singapore for assistance in the repatriation of Pakistani and Iranian nationals stranded on vessels seized by US authorities.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar revealed on Friday that he had contacted Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan to request support in facilitating the return of 11 Pakistani and 20 Iranian seafarers. These individuals were aboard vessels seized by the US Navy in proximity to Singaporean waters, amidst a heightened blockade of Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz.
“We appreciate the cooperation and support being extended by Singapore,” stated Minister Dar. He emphasized that Pakistan, through its Foreign Office and relevant authorities, is working closely with US authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the safety, welfare, and swift return of its citizens.
Minister Dar also confirmed that he had been in close communication with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, regarding the matter. Demonstrating regional solidarity, Pakistan has offered to facilitate the safe repatriation of Iranian nationals to Iran via Pakistani territory.
This development unfolds as the US and Iran continue to engage in hostilities, jeopardizing a ceasefire agreement reached earlier in April. The ongoing conflict has severely disrupted maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, leaving numerous ships and thousands of seafarers stranded.
China has also expressed deep concern over the situation, confirming that a tanker with a Chinese crew was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz.
The situation remains tense as regional and international actors work to de-escalate the conflict and ensure the safety and well-being of those affected.
