On December 26, 2025, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) arrived in Islamabad for his first official visit to Pakistan as President, signaling a new chapter in the “brotherly relations” between the two nations. Upon entering Pakistani airspace, the Royal aircraft was escorted by a formation of JF-17 Thunder Block III fighter jets, a symbolic gesture reflecting deep-rooted defense ties.
The President was received at the Nur Khan airbase by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, followed by a ceremonial 21-gun salute. To mark the occasion, the district administration declared a public holiday in the capital, and the government released a special welcome song titled “Ahlan wa Sahlan, Marhaba” to celebrate the enduring partnership.

The “substantive talks” between the two leaders focused on transitioning the bilateral relationship from traditional financial support to a robust, investment-driven strategic partnership. Key areas of discussion included expanding cooperation in information technology, renewable energy, infrastructure, and mining. Both sides underscored the UAE’s role as Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner and a vital source of remittances.
The discussions also touched upon Pakistan’s current seat on the UN Security Council, with President Al Nahyan noting it as a valuable opportunity for joint efforts toward global peace. The visit follows the signing of multiple MoUs earlier in 2024 concerning cultural exchange and consular affairs, setting the stage for a significant increase in Emirati investment under Pakistan’s Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) framework.
