Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani is currently visiting Pakistan. The Foreign Minister arrived in Islamabad on the invitation of DPM Dar.
The Syrian Foreign Minister met the Prime Minister of Pakistan, during which the latter stressed that ties between Islamabad and Damascus should yield bilateral cooperation. The longstanding friendship should translate into multifaceted cooperation across sectors such as politics, defense, trade, investment, education, and human resource development.

In this meeting, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, unity, and position on the Golan Heights. Furthermore, a direct air link between Damascus and Islamabad would enhance people-to-people exchanges and facilitate pilgrims taking religious visits to Syria.
Al-Shaibani conveyed Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s greetings to PM Sharif. Expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support to Syria, and briefed about the ongoing transitional and reconstruction efforts in Syria. He expressed the Syrian government’s interest in “revitalizing bilateral engagement, including through early institutional mechanisms for cooperation.”
The Prime Minister invited the Syrian President to visit Pakistan. In the meeting, both sides reaffirmed brotherly ties, their intention to expand bilateral cooperation, exchanged views on regional and international developments—including Palestine, Golab Heights, Afghanistan, South Asia, and the Middle East—and reaffirmed their commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity.
Al-Shaibani also welcomed the signing of the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement and lauded Pakistan’s mediation in the US-Iran conflict to sustain peace and stability. Before the delegation-level talks, FM Dar held a restricted meeting with his counterpart.

For context, the first Syrian Foreign Minister is traveling to Pakistan for the first time since 2007, when Walid al-Mouallem visited Pakistan. Al-Shaibani is the first person to visit Pakistan representing Syria after the change of government in Damascus.
