Lahore  Law enforcement agencies have arrested Shershah, another key suspect wanted in connection with the May 9, 2023, incidents, including violent attacks on state institutions and properties following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.

According to police officials, Shershah had been evading arrest for several months despite being named in multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) registered under anti-terrorism and public order laws. He was apprehended during a targeted operation based on intelligence inputs and subsequently taken into custody for further investigation.

Background on May 9 Incidents

The May 9 unrest saw widespread violence across the country, with protestors targeting military installations, monuments of martyrs, and government properties. Among the most high-profile incidents was the attack on Jinnah House (the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence), as well as violent demonstrations outside the General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi.

Authorities have maintained that those involved in orchestrating or participating in the violence would be brought to justice through fair legal proceedings.

Ongoing Investigations

A police spokesperson confirmed that Shershah is accused of direct involvement in planning and executing violent protests, adding that his role is under detailed examination. He is expected to be produced before an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) for physical remand, where investigators will present evidence of his participation in the May 9 riots.

Law enforcement agencies reiterated their resolve that all individuals involved in anti-state activities will face strict legal consequences, emphasizing that no leniency will be shown to those responsible for attacking national institutions.

Shershah will remain under investigation during police custody, with authorities confirming that additional arrests of other suspects in the May 9 cases are also expected in the coming days as part of an ongoing crackdown.
