The social media platform X (formerly Twitter) experienced a significant global outage, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access their feeds. This marks the second time the platform has gone dark in just seven days, following a similar disruption on Tuesday. Reports of the crash surged around 8:15 PM PKT, with tracking website Downdetector recording a peak of nearly 75,000 reports in the United States and thousands more across the UK, India, and Pakistan.

The outage appeared to affect both the mobile app and the desktop website. Many users were met with blank screens or “Cloudflare error” pages, while others found that their timelines failed to refresh, displaying posts from several hours earlier. Interestingly, Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, was also impacted, struggling to provide responses or showing “heavy load” errors. Cloudflare later identified network-related issues at its Newark and Atlanta data centers, though it remains unclear if this was the sole cause of the platform-wide failure.

While services began to gradually stabilize about an hour after the peak, X has yet to issue an official statement regarding the root cause. This latest technical glitch adds to a growing list of infrastructure challenges for the company over the past year. Industry experts suggest the instability may be linked to ongoing backend changes, including Musk’s recent announcement to make the platform’s recommendation algorithm open source within the coming week.
