Google is introducing several new features to the Google Maps application, most notably integrating Gemini AI to provide insightful tips, enhancing the experience for electric vehicle (EV) owners, and allowing for anonymous user reviews.
A new “Know Before You Go” section, powered by Gemini, will now appear when users search for places like restaurants or hotels, synthesizing information from user reviews and online content to offer specific advice, such as how to book, parking tips, and even details on “secret menu items.”

The app’s Explore tab is also being updated to feature more trending and popular activities, restaurants, and sites nearby, making curated lists easier to find by simply swiping up. For EV owners, Google Maps is leveraging AI to provide more accurate estimates: the app will now predict how many chargers are likely to be available at a charging station upon a user’s arrival, using historical and real-time data to help drivers avoid long waiting lines.

Furthermore, Google is adding support for sharing reviews anonymously; users can now choose a nickname and profile picture to associate with their contributions instead of their real name. Insider tips are available immediately for iOS users, while the updated Explore tab and anonymous review options are rolling out this month, with the AI charger predictions initially limited to Android Auto and cars with Google built-in.
