A joint education initiative between the United Kingdom, Punjab, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) provincial governments has helped over 200,000 children improve access to primary schooling, foundational literacy, numeracy, and life skills, the British High Commission (BHC) announced on Monday.
The programme targeted over 500 public schools, enabling 35,000 out-of-school children to return to education and providing remedial learning support to 48,000 students. Additionally, the initiative upgraded facilities across 400 schools and trained more than 5,500 educators and 250 Master Trainers to improve teaching standards.
Official evaluations demonstrated substantial learning gains:

Urdu Literacy: Reading proficiency rose from 15% to 78%.

English Literacy: Reading levels increased from 15% to 45%.

Mathematics: Subtraction competency improved from 37% to 67%.
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, CEO of the Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) Muhammad Musa Ali Bokhari, and K-P Special Secretary for Education Masood Ahmed praised the partnership’s focus on evidence-based classroom practices and reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining foundational learning outcomes.
