IRGC Issues Assassination Threat Against Netanyahu

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a direct assassination threat against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, signaling a sharp escalation in psychological warfare as the regional conflict enters its third week. Published via the official Sepah News platform, the statement vows to pursue and kill the Prime Minister, a rhetorical move likely intended to deter further strikes following the reported death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28. Analysts suggest that while this underscores a dangerous shift in leadership-targeting narratives, it primarily serves to increase the protective burden on Israeli security forces and bolster Iranian domestic morale.

This threat coincides with a surge of digital misinformation regarding Netanyahu’s physical condition. After the Israeli Prime Minister was absent from the public eye for several days, a video released on March 12 sparked widespread social media rumors of AI manipulation, including claims of digital “glitches” in the footage. Although the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office has categorically dismissed these reports as fabrications, the rumors, combined with the IRGC’s aggressive stance, highlight the volatile intersection of kinetic warfare and digital disinformation. As the war expands across multiple fronts, both sides are increasingly leveraging strategic ambiguity to influence regional perceptions and national stability.
