The Saudi state news agency SPA reported that this financial assistance aims to bolster Pakistan’s economic resilience and stability, reflecting the ongoing collaboration between the two nations.
The SBP confirmed via X that it had already received $2 billion from the Saudi Ministry of Finance, effective April 15, 2026, which will provide essential support to Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves as the country manages its external payment obligations.
This financial boost follows a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah.
This support is particularly timely as Pakistan is scheduled to repay $3.5 billion in debt to the United Arab Emirates by the end of the month. Recent reports also suggest that Saudi Arabia and Qatar are expected to provide a total of $5 billion in assistance to help Pakistan ease the pressure on its reserves and meet external payments by June.
As of recent reports, Pakistan’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves stand at approximately $21.89 billion, including $16.4 billion held by the central bank and $5.49 billion held by commercial banks. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb noted that Pakistan made $1.4 billion in external payments last week.
