Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary General, Nurlan Yermekbayev, today commended the Republic of Kyrgyzstan on its great contributions to the Organization and its high expectations of its future presidency. The Secretary General made his statements in a media briefing at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing.
Mr. Yermekbayev emphasized the primary role of Kyrgyzstan as a founding member and its constant support of enhancing mutual trust, open dialogue, and the creation of equal partnerships between member states.
The Secretary General said that Kyrgyzstan, being one of the founding member countries of the SCO has played significant roles in the growth of the SCO over the years.
He was optimistic that the presidency of Kyrgyzstan would provide a new push to the bloc, which would result in the further enhancement of political mutual trust and strong cooperation in the main spheres. In particular, the presidency will be concerned with:
- Encouraging economic and trade collaboration.
- Developing transportation and energy interconnection.
- Improving cultural and youth exchange.
- Collectively encouraging the adoption of environmental protection programs.
- The Secretary General confirmed that these priorities are in full compliance with the strategic interests of the member countries and the real needs of the region. He also pointed out that Kyrgyzstan is in a good position to play significant roles in enhancing the unity of the SCO, enhancing effectiveness, executing practical projects, and enhancing cross-border collaboration.
Mr. Yermekbayev concluded his speech by wishing Kyrgyzstan a successful and successful presidency, urging all the member states to come together, embrace the spirit of Shanghai, and proceed with vigor. He also encouraged the media to actively and extensively cover the Kyrgyz presidency and SCO activities in order to popularize the values of the Organization and to jointly preserve regional and world peace, security, and stability.
