US President Donald Trump has ruled out the idea of running for vice president in the 2028 elections, dismissing speculation sparked by some of his supporters who have floated creative ways to extend his time in office.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “I’d be allowed to do that… but I wouldn’t do that. I think it’s too cute. The people wouldn’t like that, it wouldn’t be right.”

The comments come amid chatter about whether Trump could return to the White House by running as vice president under another candidate who might later resign. However, constitutional experts argue that such a move would violate the 22nd Amendment, which bars anyone from being elected president more than twice.
Trump, currently on an Asia tour, hinted at his continued political ambitions, saying, “I would love to do it. I have my best numbers ever.”
He also praised Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, suggesting they could make a powerful team: “If they ever formed a group, it’d be unstoppable.”
