During their comprehensive discussion, the UN official highlighted that the world’s oceans and seas are not just geographic features but crucial arteries for international commerce, with over 80% of global trade moving by sea. He detailed the pressing need for a unified international front to tackle persistent threats, including piracy that endangers shipping lanes, illegal fishing that depletes vital resources, and the illicit trafficking of drugs and arms. These criminal activities, if unchecked, can severely disrupt global supply chains and lead to widespread economic instability.
The UN official extended specific appreciation for Pakistan’s unwavering efforts in this domain. He acknowledged the Pakistan Navy’s proactive stance and its consistent naval patrols and regional exercises, which have been instrumental in deterring illicit activities and ensuring the safety of sea lanes. Located at a critical juncture of maritime trade routes, Pakistan’s commitment is essential for the security of the broader Indian Ocean.
Pakistan’s Minister of Defense reaffirmed the nation’s resolve, stating that Pakistan is “always ready to play its role for peace and security.” The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from both parties to strengthen cooperation, signaling a collective effort to secure the world’s oceans as a bedrock for global peace and prosperity.
