Vietnam’s agricultural sector has set an ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 15% by 2035, compared to 2020 levels, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE).
The initiative, part of the country’s low-emission crop production plan for 2025–2035, focuses on high-emission crops such as rice, cassava, sugarcane, coffee, and bananas. The plan also introduces a low-emission label for agricultural commodities and aims to develop 15 carbon-ready farming models across provinces.
By 2050, Vietnam envisions transforming its agriculture into a fully ecological, low-emission, and high-tech sector, aligned with its net-zero commitment.
Key measures include creating five emission-reduction packages, training 3,000 farmers and businesses, and developing a national emissions database integrated with digital monitoring systems.
Funding will come from state budgets, private investment, and global climate initiatives, with strong emphasis on AI-driven farming, data-based governance, and international cooperation to promote climate-resilient and green agriculture.
