JERUSALEM | PALESTINE – Human rights watchdog Amnesty International has issued a grave allegation today, asserting that Israel is implementing a deliberate campaign of starvation against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The organization’s claim comes amidst intensifying warnings from United Nations agencies and humanitarian groups about an impending famine in the war-torn enclave.

According to a newly released report, Amnesty interviewed 19 displaced Gazans sheltering in makeshift camps and medical personnel treating severely malnourished children. Based on these firsthand accounts, the group accused Israel of “systematically destroying the health, well-being and social fabric of Palestinian life” and of inflicting conditions deliberately intended to lead to physical destruction—actions Amnesty characterizes as “part and parcel of Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.”
Amid these serious allegations, Israel—through its military and foreign ministry—has so far offered no official comment. The claim adds to a growing chorus of criticism against Israel’s restrictions on humanitarian aid and access to Gaza.
In response to Amnesty’s allegations, Israel’s Defense Ministry body COGAT, tasked with civil affairs in Palestinian territories, released its own statement last week. The body falsely denied the existence of widespread malnutrition, disputing figures presented by Gaza’s health ministry and refuting claims that restrictions are politically motivated rather than security-driven.
