Amidst stalled peace talks between the United States and Iran, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has assured Iranian diplomat Abbas Araghchi that Moscow will exert every effort to secure peace in the Middle East. The assurance was given during Araghchi’s visit to St. Petersburg, where he met with Putin to discuss ongoing negotiations with the US.

Araghchi’s visit to Russia followed engagements in Oman and Pakistan, where he reportedly conveyed Iran’s red lines to the US regarding nuclear issues and the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump convened with his national security advisors to address the Iranian proposals.
Negotiations have hit a snag, with Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi blaming “excessive US demands” for the failure of talks in Pakistan. President Putin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to its “strategic relationship” with Iran, vowing to support the interests of the Iranian people and regional peace.
Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov reiterated Russia’s position that the US-Israeli war on Iran should be resolved exclusively through diplomatic means.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt acknowledged discussions on Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that President Trump’s red lines remain clear. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran is “serious” about a deal, but stressed the need to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, tensions flared at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) review conference at the UN, with the US and Iran exchanging sharp remarks over Tehran’s nuclear program. Iran also criticized the European Union over sanctions.
