Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif called on Afghanistan to decisively curb terrorist operations from its soil, emphasizing that lasting regional peace hinges on reining in groups like Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during his address at the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference on “Peace, Security and Development” Tuesday.
Addressing global lawmakers, PM Shehbaz underscored Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to diplomacy: “We firmly believe that peace and security form the foundation of sustainable national and regional development. A peaceful Afghanistan holds the key to regional connectivity, peace, and prosperity.”
He hailed Türkiye and Qatar’s mediation in recent Istanbul talks, which collapsed amid mutual recriminations, and lauded Pakistan’s “firm and decisive” response to October’s border clashes that killed dozens. The premier also reflected on May’s brief conflict with India, where Pakistani forces “performed outstandingly,” adding: “Having won the war, we need to win peace through sincere efforts.”
PM Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s proactive role in forums like the UN, OIC, ECO, and SCO, regretting persistent terrorism that “imperils peace within Afghanistan and beyond.”
In a stark parallel, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif declared Pakistan “in a state of war,” citing Monday’s suicide bombing at Islamabad District Courts and the thwarted attack on Cadet College Wana as “wake-up calls.” Posting on X, he warned: “This is a war for all of Pakistan… Pakistan has the full strength to respond.”

In an interview on Hum News’ Faisla Aap Ka, Asif stressed cautious optimism for talks but urged sincerity: “Negotiations should be held, but with the objective of peace. If they want all-out hostility, we are prepared on both western and eastern borders.”

These statements follow the neutralization of 20 militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over November 8–9 and underscore Pakistan’s “Azm-e-Istehkam” campaign against foreign-sponsored terror. The government reaffirms its pursuit of dialogue while safeguarding sovereignty and citizens.
