The Pakistani government has approved a substantial Rs50.9 billion ($180 million) defense package, aimed at fortifying national security measures amidst a recent spike in terrorist attacks. The allocations were sanctioned during a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

In addition to the main defense package, the ECC also cleared nearly Rs950 million in Technical Supplementary Grants (TSG) for the Federal Civil Armed Forces. This additional funding is earmarked for critical areas, including Rs100.3 million for the repair and maintenance of defense equipment, ensuring operational readiness for law enforcement. A further Rs841.56 million was approved to support enhanced border control operations, internal security duties, and maintenance of law and order nationwide.
Beyond security matters, the ECC addressed critical economic reforms. It approved the winding up of the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation and authorized the creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to oversee its structured closure, including reforms in procurement and supply-chain restructuring. Furthermore, the committee cleared proposals from the Petroleum Division to extend license periods and offer flexible working interests for offshore oil and gas exploration blocks. These measures are designed to incentivize greater foreign investment and participation in the country’s petroleum sector.
