Pakistan’s New Remote Sensing Satellite Achieves Full Operational Status

Pakistan has reached a significant milestone in its space ambitions as its newly launched remote sensing satellite has successfully entered orbit and commenced full operations, according to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco).

The satellite was launched on July 31, 2025, from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center. It has now established stable communication with ground stations and started transmitting high-resolution imagery to Earth. With advanced imaging capabilities, it is poised to transform diverse sectors across Pakistan, notably in urban planning, infrastructure development, and environmental monitoring.

This satellite strengthens national disaster resilience by delivering timely data critical for preparedness and response to floods, landslides, earthquakes, and other natural hazards. Environmental scientists will also benefit from enhanced monitoring of glacier melt, deforestation, and broader climate-change phenomena.

Agricultural productivity stands to gain with precision tools that improve crop tracking and yield forecasting, while large-scale development endeavors—such as the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)—will be supported through enhanced mapping of transport networks, geohazard identification, and natural resource management.

Suparco has underscored that this achievement not only enhances national decision-making capabilities but also strengthens technological autonomy and socio-economic development through space-based innovation.

This launch builds on Pakistan’s growing space portfolio, joining previous successes like the indigenous PRSC-EO1 satellite in early 2025 and academic efforts such as PAUSAT-1, reflecting a robust and expanding Earth observation infrastructure.
