In a separate development, Moscow experienced a rare drone attack on Monday night. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that a Ukrainian drone struck a residential high-rise building in the Mosfilmovskaya district, an upscale area approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the Kremlin. While there were no casualties, the attack caused damage to an apartment, as shown in a video released by Russian state broadcaster Rossiya-1, depicting collapsed walls and broken doors. Sobyanin also stated that air defenses repelled two drones targeting Moscow during the night, with another drone being hit over the city during the morning hours. The incident occurred just days before the annual May 9 parade, which will proceed without military hardware this year due to heightened security concerns.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, a Russian missile attack on the town of Merefa, near Kharkiv, resulted in the deaths of seven civilians and wounded dozens. Kharkiv regional governor Oleg Synegubov reported that the victims included two men who died from their wounds in the hospital, along with two additional men and three women. Journalists at the scene witnessed the aftermath, with bodies covered in blankets and sheets amidst damaged shops, houses, and cars. In a separate incident, a Russian attack on a village in southern Ukraine resulted in two additional fatalities.
