Saudi Arabia Urges Comprehensive Riyadh Conference Amid Yemen Tensions

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expresses its deep concern over recent military developments in eastern Yemen and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the stability, unity, and security of the Yemeni state.

In response to the deteriorating situation, the Ministry urges the convening of a comprehensive conference in Riyadh. This summit aims to bring together all southern factions to discuss just and sustainable solutions to the southern cause through political dialogue rather than military confrontation. The Kingdom notes that the legitimate Yemeni government has officially issued the invitation for these talks.

The Kingdom views the recent large-scale military offensives in eastern Yemen, specifically within the oil-rich Hadramawt province, as a direct threat to regional stability. The Ministry underscores that the national security of Saudi Arabia remains a “red line” that cannot be compromised.

In light of recent escalations and the fracturing of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states the following:

  • Support for Institutional Legitimacy: The Kingdom stands firmly with the Presidential Leadership Council and denounces any actions that threaten to fracture the Yemeni state or plunge the region into further chaos.
  • Call for De-escalation: Following recent air strikes targeting military hardware and unauthorized shipments in southern ports, the Kingdom calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent a wider conflagration that would exacerbate the world’s most severe humanitarian and hunger crises.
  • Withdrawal of External Pressures: The Ministry supports the call for the departure of forces that have pressured local factions to launch offensives near the Kingdom’s borders. We acknowledge the subsequent agreement for the withdrawal of such forces and expect full compliance to restore the sovereign integrity of Yemen.
  • Humanitarian Priority: With over 19 million people requiring assistance, the Kingdom emphasizes that military escalations only serve to deepen the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Saudi Arabia remains committed to its role as a mediator and a pillar of support for the Yemeni people. We call upon all parties to prioritize the interests of the Yemeni nation and engage in the Riyadh conference in good faith to achieve a peaceful, political resolution.
