WhatsApp has begun rolling out a new AI-powered image generator for Status Updates, allowing users to create custom visuals directly from text prompts. The feature, powered by Meta’s generative AI, is currently available to select users on iOS and Android, with a wider global release expected soon.
The tool enables users to describe scenes like “a rainy street at night” or “a golden sunrise over mountains,” and the AI instantly produces multiple visual versions to choose from. This marks a creative shift in how users express moods and stories, replacing static photos or videos with AI-generated imagery.
Building on WhatsApp’s earlier AI wallpaper generator, the new update extends Meta’s broader push to integrate AI tools across its platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.
The rollout remains in its testing phase, with Meta confirming gradual server-side deployment to ensure performance and stability before full public access.
