Syrian Foreign Minister to Visit Pakistan

Aug 20, 2026 | Latest News, Global Affairs

Foreign Office of Pakistan informed that the Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, is due to visit Pakistan. An invitation to the Syrian Foreign Minister was extended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan.

Syria’s transitional leadership has once again resumed regional and international engagements following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad in 2024. Shaibani’s visit is expected to take place from August 19, 2026 to August 20, 2026. A high-level delegation will accompany him.

The statement issued by the Foreign Office, to this effect, reads:

“During the visit, the two sides will hold in-depth discussions across the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, review avenues for further enhancing bilateral cooperation, and exchange views on regional and international developments.”

This visit is significant, although it does not promise major investments. Nevertheless, it is an important diplomatic milestone. It would strengthen ties and expand cooperation across different sectors between Syria and Pakistan.

This visit is also unique because it is the first time in approximately 19 years that a Syrian Foreign Minister has visited Pakistan. The last time it happened was in May 2007 when Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mouallem traveled to Pakistan. The fact that this is the first official visit to Pakistan since the change of government in Damascus makes it even more interesting.
