UAE and European Union Conclude 13th Human Rights Dialogue in Abu Dhabi

The United Arab Emirates and the European Union successfully held the 13th session of their bilateral Dialogue on Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The meeting served as a vital platform for the exchange of information, expertise, and best practices in the ongoing promotion and protection of human rights.

The UAE delegation was led by His Excellency Saeed Al Hebsi, Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation included representatives from:

  • The Ministry of Justice
  • The Ministry of Interior
  • The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization
  • The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA)
  • The Ministry’s Strategic Communications Department

The European Union delegation was headed by Her Excellency Anna-Maria Panagiotakopoulou, Head of the Arabian Peninsula and Iraq Division at the European External Action Service (EEAS).

Key Areas of Discussion

The dialogue covered a comprehensive range of issues of mutual interest, including:

  • Rule of Law and Labor Rights: Ongoing reforms and legal frameworks.
  • Equality and Empowerment: Significant focus on women’s rights and their role in peace and security.
  • Modern Challenges: The intersection of digital technology and human rights.
  • Global Coordination: Strengthening cooperation within United Nations human rights bodies and mechanisms.
  • Protective Measures: Combating human trafficking and ensuring freedom of expression.

H.E. Saeed Al Hebsi emphasized the UAE’s commitment to building bridges through constructive dialogue, stating that the session provided an opportunity to showcase the UAE’s progress and its dedication to implementing training programs with strategic partners.

The European side commended the UAE for its continuous progress, specifically highlighting achievements in women’s empowerment. Furthermore, both parties welcomed the official launch of negotiations regarding a new Strategic Partnership Agreement between the UAE and the European Union, marking a new chapter in bilateral relations.
